cgarcia@renacademy.orgTell us about yourself!
I love spending time with my husband, cat and pups. I love being around friends (and enjoys making new ones), visiting my family back home in Michigan during breaks and holidays, and taking every opportunity to learn and try new things. I enjoy going to the movies, watching plays, musicals, and dance performances, crafting, swimming, hiking, biking, and attending Zumba classes. To relax, I like to read, cook and bake, organize, play music and sing.
What is your favorite subject to teach?
I am in my seventh year of teaching, and I'm excited for another year of math exploration. I have supported math students of all ages, and have spent most of my teaching career working with students in grades 7 through 9, teaching both non-honors and honors classes. I am passionate about education, learning new things every day, teaching and supporting others, and collaborating with my peers. I love mathematics, and particularly, working with students who need extra support with foundational skills and concepts. One of my goals is to make math a positive and fun learning experience so my students will grow to love problem-solving and learning, just like I do.
Is there anything else you'd like Renaissance families to know?
I recently got married, but my name last year was Ms. Smith. I emphasize a positive learning environment for all, and encourages students to learn at their pace, stay in the struggle, and always ask for support even when it is hard.
