Renaissance Academy asks that each family volunteer 40 hours.
Volunteer hours can be hours that you spend at the school in classrooms, doing prep-work for teachers, chaperoning field trips, taking work home for teachers, with the FEC programs, on the school board, or when you watch children so another parent can volunteer at the school.
We have many ways for you to volunteer, please come join us!
The Family Engagement Committee is known as the FEC. The FEC leadership organizes RA parent efforts as classroom volunteers, event coordinators, and committee heads. In addition, the FEC organizes many school events; finds parents to go on field trips; sets up literacy events; holds school dress code clothing sales; feeds the teachers during SEPs; organizes Red Ribbon week for students and Teacher Appreciation week for teachers. The FEC is an integral part of making our school vision come alive.
All volunteers must sign in at the front office and receive a visitor badge. All volunteers must have a background check with the school. (You can do this by requesting a background check at the front office.)
In order to fulfill our vision for education, many adults are needed to help in classrooms, serve as after-school volunteers in our after-school programs, work with leadership, etc. At Renaissance Academy, parent (or other family adult) participation is essential. Parents sign and agree to the terms outlined in the Parent Participation Agreement, which brings them to the classroom at least every other week, asks that they serve on a school committee (most with the Family Engagement Committee), and chaperone at least one field trip per child per year. Individual circumstances may change how this agreement is fulfilled. In fulfilling volunteer requests, parents bolster the education process and make experiential learning possible.
Many of the opportunities for involvement will be communicated to parents through the school web site, postings at school and/or school newsletters. Any parents wishing to volunteer in a role that involves significant, unsupervised contact with students will be required to pass a background check. Parents will be encouraged to volunteer in a variety of ways that can include, but are not limited to:
For the safety of our children, parents and others wishing to volunteer must complete a background check. The background check form is available above and at the front office. A $20 fee is required to process the background check. Please turn in completed forms with payment to the front office prior to the first day of school. Background checks will be valid for 3 years from the date approved.
