Tell us about yourself!

My husband and I have five boys, ages 8 to 18, two dogs, two cats, and two lizards. We live in Lehi and absolutely love it here. My husband used to work for the US Department of State, so we've moved a lot and gotten to know many wonderful people around the world, but are happy to be settled here now. Some of my favorite things to read are books about Russian and Eastern European history, historical world literature from the Kalevala to the Iliad, and fiction that has a happy ending. My favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien, but other than that I don't generally enjoy fantasy stories, though we do listen to audio books by R.A. Salvatore on most family road trips. My favorite movie is Oscar, and my favorite television show is Dr. Who. In my free time I like to find projects to do with my kids, pick away at writing projects with my husband, and make everyone in my home roll their eyes as I search for new places to plant fruit trees in our yard. As a family, we enjoy swimming, hiking, catching insects, playing minecraft (possibly I love it more than all of my kids), and playing dungeons and dragons. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in special education. I've had the privilege to work with a wide variety of students over my years as an educator, which has given me a lot of opportunity to gain insight into the different ways people learn.

What is your favorite subject to teach? 

Polite kids. 

What do you love most about education?

I believe that the more a teacher learns and experiences, the better they are able to help students reach high levels of achievement. I love learning and love helping children achieve their potential!
