Tell us about yourself!
I graduated from BYU in 1983. I worked at Central Elementary in Pleasant Grove from 1983 to 2013. During the 2012-2013 school year I worked at both Central Elementary and Shelley Elementary located in American Fork. I retired from the Alpine School District at the end of the 2012-2013 school year and accepted a 6th grade position at Renaissance Academy.
I was the founder and director of Alpine School District's Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center. The Space Education Center opened in November 1990. At the time of my retirement over 330,000 students attended the Center's many different programs. The Space Center is the favorite field trip destination for the majority of Utah Valley's 6th grades.
My work at the Space Education Center has been recognized by many organizations. I've received the Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education, the Milken Family Foundation's National Education Award, The Christa McAuliffe Fellowship from the United States Department of Education, The Toyota Tapestry Award and the Alpine School District's Accent on Excellence Award to name a few.
I'll be working with Renaissance Academy's outstanding staff to create a new space education center at the school. The Renaissance space education center will focus on integrating the arts and the humanities with an original STEM space science curriculum including the construction of one or more starship simulators. The sky is the limit and the possibilities are endless.
