Shelby Dieters

Associate Dean of Instruction

Shelby Dieters begins her 17th year in education and is currently the Dean of Instruction at Renaissance Academy.  She is responsible for evaluating and coaching teachers, planning professional developments, and providing content area expertise on best practices in pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments.

Ms. Dieters grew up in Rock Springs, Wyoming and attended the University of Wyoming where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2000.  Upon graduating she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada for a job opportunity to teach in the Clark County School District, which at that time was the fastest growing district in the nation.  During her nine years in this district she had the opportunity to teach various grades and open a new elementary school.  The high-paced population growth required her to be very flexible, as she had the experience to rotate classrooms each track break, open a school year without a classroom, and teach in overcrowded classrooms. In 2002, she received her Masters of Education from Regis University and she has taken various graduate and professional development courses since.

Her next career opportunity led her to teach in her hometown of Rock Springs, Wyoming.  While teaching in Wyoming, she had the chance to once again open a new elementary school, which placed a heavy emphasis on technology in the classroom. In this district, she was provided with numerous trainings, such as balanced literacy, math, technology, and Kagan Cooperative Learning.  She served as Co-Chair to the Achievement Monitoring Progress Team, worked collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to create common assessments, and used data to help drive instruction.  She consistently progress monitored student’s fluency, taught thinking strategies to increase reading comprehension, integrated science and social studies into reading, and taught the 6-traits of writing.

Most recently, as a teacher in Utah, she has had the opportunity to work as a third and fourth grade teacher in two different Charter Schools. During this time, she has been able to become familiar with the structure of how a Charter School runs and operates and has been given various leadership roles in helping mentor novice teachers.

With all of her expertise in the field of education, Ms. Dieters has been given the opportunity to join the Administration staff as the Dean of instruction. She loves the field of education and spends all of her energy trying to be a better educator!  She is excited to share her knowledge and range of experience with her colleagues at Renaissance Academy.

Outside of school, Ms. Dieters is a mom to 3 boys, Peyton, Hunter, and Brayden who all attend Renaissance Academy.  Her boys are very involved in sports so Ms. Dieters can be found cheering them on in football, Rugby, basketball, and baseball! She also loves to spend time outdoors snow skiing, hiking, and on the lake.
